September 12, 2026: SLC VegFest 2026

SLC VegFest is a community festival organized by Utah Animal Rights Coalition (UARC), a 501(c)3 nonprofit based in Salt Lake City. The event is free, open to the public, family-friendly, and run entirely by volunteers. The event is a celebration of veganism and plant-based eating, featuring dozens of exhibitors, most of which are local businesses.

Constitutional court of Columbia upholds—and expands—bullfighting ban

In September 2025, the Constitutional Court of Colombia not only upheld a nationwide ban on bullfighting but also struck down exemptions for cockfighting and related events where cattle are injured and killed for sport. With this decision, Colombia joins the growing list of countries that have prohibited bullfighting on animal cruelty grounds.

Great white sharks face extinction in Mediterranean, say researchers

Great white sharks in the Mediterranean Sea are in danger of disappearing, with illegal fishing contributing to their decline. This is according to research by US scientists, working in partnership with UK charity Blue Marine Foundation. They say some of the most threatened species—including great white sharks—are being sold in North African fish markets.
