Ocean surface hits highest ever recorded temperature and set to rise further

The surface temperature of the world’s oceans has hit its highest ever level as climate breakdown from burning fossil fuels causes the oceans to heat. Global average daily sea surface temperatures (SST) hit 20.96C this week, breaking the record of 20.95C reached in 2016, according to the Copernicus climate modeling service.

The new emerging phenomenon of the eco refugee

Climate change, climate denial, global warming, global cooling. Call it what you want the planet is shouting at us. We have ignored the warning signs for decades. Newly discovered whale species could have been heaviest animal ever

The fossilised bones of an ancient creature that patrolled coastal waters 40m years ago belong to a newly discovered species that is a contender for the heaviest animal ever to have existed on Earth. Fossil hunters discovered remnants of the enormous and long-extinct whale in a rock formation in the Ica desert of southern Peru. […]

Fifty-one pilot whales die after mass stranding in Australia

More than 50 pilot whales have died after stranding on a remote beach in Australia’s west, authorities said, while rescue teams tried to return the rest of the pod back to the waters. Marine experts and volunteers camped overnight at Cheynes Beach, 280 miles southeast of Perth in Western Australia state, after the whales were […]

Climate records tumble, leaving Earth in uncharted territory

A series of climate records on temperature, ocean heat, and Antarctic sea ice have alarmed some scientists who say their speed and timing is unprecedented. Dangerous heatwaves in Europe could break further records, the UN says. It is hard to immediately link these events to climate change because weather—and oceans—are so complex.

Vegan diet massively cuts environmental damage, study shows

Eating a vegan diet massively reduces the damage to the environment caused by food production, the most comprehensive analysis to date has concluded. The research showed that vegan diets resulted in 75% less climate-heating emissions, water pollution and land use than diets in which more than 100g of meat a day was eaten.
